The Antlers - i don't want love
via pitchfork
"I Don't Want Love" emerges from the morning-after fallout between friends with benefits, only without the friendship: something has clearly gone wrong, but Silberman doesn't sound accusatory: "I let you inside/ So you can push me around." Now a full-fledged trio, the Antlers reflect the situation's fragility in the music, an even-keeled flow of lingering guitar chords backing a melody that's forthright, yet trying to let everyone down easy. The mere mention of the title on the chorus is the big moment, as Silberman lets it hang for everyone to take it all in. It's understandable that the Antlers would be hungover from the gnarly bloodletting of Hospice; "I Don't Want Love" is less a rejection of physical pleasure than a subtly gripping call for emotional sobriety.
